Route from Virudhachalam to Gangaikondacholapuram

On 11Mar20, we started early morning and our plan was to reach Gangaikondacholapuram by afternoon. The road condition was good all the way till Gangaikondacholapuram. After Virudachalam, the road is village road and its scenic, you will enjoy the ride. We reached destination by around 2.00PM and had lunch in Ananda Bhavan in front of Temple. The Hospitality provided by Akhilan was amazing, he gave space for us to change our attire and also to keep our ride attires.

Gangaikondacholapuram Temple : Its architecture marvel, one much visit once in a life time and its listed in Unesco Heritage site. Its built by Rajendra Cholan the greatest chola king in the history. Pics taken in the temple.

After visiting the Peruvudaiyar temple, we left to Kumbakonam on the same day and reached by around 9.00PM. Had a good roadside kumbakonam tiffin and rested for the next. Next day 12Mar21, our primary goal was to visit Shri Airavatesvara Temple, Dharasuram and then if time permits we wanted to visit other temples in kumbakonam

We visited the followign temple on 12Mar21

  • Shri Airavatesvara Temple, Dharasuram

  • Adi Kumbeswarar Temple, Kumbakonam

  • Sri Sarangapani Temple, Kumbakonam

  • Arulmigu Chakrapani SwamiTemple, Kumbakonam

  • Brihadeeswara Temple, Tanjavur

Shri Airavatesvara Temple, Dharasuram : This is another architecture marvel built by RajaRajaChola II grandson of RajaRajaChola. This temple architecture is unique and focuses more on detailed carving. You have to visit the temple to feel the architecture and vibrations of this temple, that's something which needs to be felt and cannot be explained

Brihadeeshwarar Perikovil, Tanjavur : This is another world heritage temple built by RajaRajaChola the great. The temple has gigantic shiva lingam and temple itself has so magnificent and vast in size. Visiting the temple during the evening gives peaceful feeling. "Om Namah Shivaya"
